holy shit. this is the first time i had watched a longer version of the UC Davis pepper spray video, and i feel like i’m going to be sick. in a nation where we look back on incidents like Rodney King and the like with disdain, it both amazes me that this still happens yet somehow doesn’t. i’m not saying everyone involved on the protesting end was blameless, but i can’t see how actions like this were ever warranted. annoying college co-eds yelling obnoxious things have got to get on your last nerve, and i understand they were most likely causing one big logistical nightmare, but there are limits. i’m disgusted with these authorities, and if Lt. Pike, the primary guy spraying folks in this video, doesn’t end up in some serious trouble, i may truly lose all faith in the powers that guide this dear nation of ours.
i feel like we are on the cusp of more and more volatile incidents, and i have to say, they scare me a little.
it is some consolation that at the end those officers look scared shitless. you know you screwed up.
(yes, i realize the girl screaming filming this is insanely annoying, but at the same time, if it was disturbing enough to have me near tears watching at home, i can only imagine that her sobbing felt pretty damn warranted at the time).
I want everyone to understand, that I picked out the next few words I am about to use to describe this video VERY carefully (so that I’m sure I will not make an accidental overstatement). WHAT. THE. HELL. THIS IS SICKENING. I read elsewhere that the first girl dragged away coughed up blood for about an hour after this happened. It must suck to be one of the few good cops nowadays.
